Since we launched our marketing campaign at the end of September we have received a tremendous amount of feedback. Each and every email we receive, we read. While many emails cursed us out for wanting to “destroy Shabbos” we got even more thanking us for finally developing such a much needed app.
There were two main concerns that both laymen and rabbi’s brought up that we felt we needed to address. One was the issue of not wanting to rely on “grama” for the keypad, even though according to some poskim it is ok, and the other was a concern of people misusing the phone on Shabbos by replying to business emails, shopping, etc.
We fixed both. For starters, we modified the message input from our previous keypad to a new wordpad. On the new wordpad a user can pick from pre-made word blocks and create a sentence. There are 120 included words and 30 words that a user can add (before Shabbos). With the new wordpad there is no problem at all of Kosev, as the user is never creating a word.
Next, we modified the app to only allow for messaging using our integrated messaging app, that can only send a message to another user who has the app. All other features on the phone will be blocked when the app is active. This will enable people to communicate without violating the Shabbos atmosphere. In the future, we plan to release modules that will enable other applications to be used in a permissible fashion.
